WESAK MOON BLESSINGS,
Dear Reader in the Astrology ComMOONity!
The Wesak Moon is celebrated by the Buddhist world Sangha (community), in honour of the birth, attaining of enlightenment, and passing of Gautama Siddhartha, the Buddha, who walked the Earth more than 2500 years ago, and set a model for the Living Buddha in all of us.
Yes, the ‘Full Moon in May’ traditionally marks the Wesak Moon in Buddhist cultures and that falls this year actually only on May 29, with the MOON in SAG and the SUN in GEM.
I’d suggest to also honour and align with the SCORPIO MOON – TAURUS SUN polarity as the astrological Wesak Moon (see chart below).
It expresses the gist of basic Buddhist teachings, which in turn can help us understand and transform the core of the matter with TAU – SCO!
One essential question in Buddhism is:
Why do we humans suffer, or are even ‘just’ dissatisfied / discontent (‘dukkha’) in life ?
The answer is simple and obvious – yet still, it’s over and over again revolutionary to see it this way (why do we forget?!):
Because of our attachments to what we desire, and their frustration – not getting what we want, and not being able to get rid of the unwanted and painful. Which is… very TAURUS – SCORPIO!
And yes, there’s a difference between physical pain and human suffering (which implies choice)!
The Buddhists would suggest two ‘ways out’ of the quagmire of suffering:
1) To be aware that nothing really lasts forever, everything is impermanent. This world of phenomena is in constant flux and change – we better get used to it, and become free through that realization.
2) Walking the ‘Middle Path’, a.k.a. the practice of the Noble 8-fold Path (right speech, right livelihood, right samadhi….) brings intrinsic happiness.
May the astrological Wesak Moon and the Buddhist Wesak Moon bring golden opportunities for insights and practice that set us FREE!
SCO – TAU Full Moon Themes – that are UP NOW
Fixed, earthy TAURUS (ruled by VENUS) is all about embodiment, enjoyment of life-on-Earth, sensuality, assimilation (food and stuff), and value. A substance building energy.
Immersed in the realm of TAURUS, as in the full bloom of Spring, we celebrate the physical senses, comfort and pleasure, everything that creates security and grounding, and grows over time.
Taurean energy takes roots, builds, cultivates, and conserves, like a gardener, farmer, and good custodian of the Earth. TAU likes to attract what’s pleasant, to experience it via the senses, to eat, assimilate, gather and accumulate, to settle and to claim ownership and territory.
TAU slows down, after the fast and furious ARIES energy, and favours predictability and patience; therefore habits and routines are formed. Its orientation is very life affirming, yet can obviously lead to attachment to the known and comfortable, to the material and worldly plane in general, and to physical satisfaction, hording, and greed. TAU has a strong resistance to change and to pain.
SCORPIO (ruled by PLUTO) carries transformation medicine.
The fixed deep water sign SCO (picture: lake or pond), in contrast to the ‘above ground’ Taurean world takes us to emotionally intense, uncomfortable, ‘ugly’ places where the ‘muck’ and hidden, often covered or repressed emotional material sits.
Just as the leaves rot and go under the earth in late Oct – late Nov, the Scorpionic energy takes us to the ‘grand mystery’ of the intangible, and to emotionally deeply affecting processes that have nowhere to go but down and through, so that the alchemical work can be performed.
SCO penetrates the underground / underworld / underbelly, which can be a painful process (TAU – SCO also represent the pleasure – pain, and life – death axis). This is where deep ‘down under’ transformational ‘digestion’ of what’s actually already dead needs to happen, be purged, and eliminated.
Our very ‘human humus’ and shadow can’t be just ‘gotten rid of,’ or ‘hidden away’. It’s here to be fully processed, so that it becomes a ‘fertilizer’ for renewal: The Alchemy of Life.
SCORPIO is for the MOON the most ‘challenging’ sign.
While the MOON is considered ‘exalted’ in TAU, it is considered ‘in fall’ in SCO – here’s why:
The MOON represents emotions, our instinctual mind (in a broad sense of body-mind, feeling-mind), and our needs and habits which by nature long for nourishment and sustenance.
TAU is the sign that provides such sustaining delivery and assimilation – intake through feeding and reliable presence… whereas SCO represents necessary detoxifying elimination, often through painful processes. That’s not what our Lunar side (representing also our Inner Child) is most comfortable with, to put it mildly.
Under a SCO MOON (whether we’re born with it, have it by astrological Progression for 2½ years every 29 years, or whether the MOON in SCO for 2½ days per month affects us), we’re instinctively sensitized towards the need to purge and to ‘get rid of’ what’s toxic and outlived, what controls us, and doesn’t allow us to be free in a deeper sense.
The process calls us to go into the ‘mouth of the monster’ and through its bowels even, while our head and ego might severely protest and resist.
A SCO MOON experience can lead us to the deepest abyss of our inner worlds, yet is an opportunity to take us through it, and be regenerated and transformed through the process.
Mother and Child, by Pablo Picasso (1921). Picasso *Oct 25, 1881 was born under a strong TAU (4 Planets) – SCO (Sun and Mercury) axis.
The SCO Full Moon happens often close to Mother’s Day.
It’s ‘normal’ to have difficult feelings round mother(hood), as a mom or as a daughter / son, at this time of year – could be related to wounds around early bonding, abandonment, or abuse.
A time to go deep into the core of it and let the pain and woundedness process. JUPITER this year in SCO – the Wesak MOON will be close to it – brings a LOT up to process that’s usually hidden and helps us a lot with awareness and transformation.
So much ARIES activation recently too – encouraging us to be authentic in our process (no sugarcoating, and playing nice).
The SCO / TAU Wesak Full Moon each year is a fully solar illumined (therefore the most potent) SCO MOON that reveals our deepest needs for transformation. A golden (even if darkly covered) opportunity, says JUPITER.
With our conscious Self (represented by the SUN) we have to patiently stay and ‘sit with’ (TAU quality) what comes up from the depth, for the processing.
‘Mother’s Month’ Astrology sessions are here to help you shed light on your Mother Themes, and get the process going. Sessions for moms or for everyone with a Mother themed focus are 20% off until end of May. Get in touch with me if you’d like to hear more about it, or discuss how it can be beneficial for you.

In Buddhist tradition, the image of the peaceful Buddha floating on a (Taurean) Lotus flower that blossoms so purely and beautifully while rooted in the (Scorpionic) mud swamp, represents the enlightened quality, rooted in real-life human suffering and compassion.
Where do your swampy roots show up, these days?
Can you ‘sit’ with it all, open to the light of consciousness?
The Wesak Full Moon is a magnificent divine and meditative moment-in-time, when transformation (SCO) can be anchored (TAU).
Our attachment to desires and longing for what we want and don’t have, or ‘even’ to pain / suffering / complaining / feeding those ‘hungry ghosts’ (TAU) that show up in obvious or subtle personal and collective / cultural addictions and compulsions (more consumption, information, work, entertainment, nothing’s ever enough…).
All these manifestations of attachments can be put into the bonfire of the soul (SCO) so that the deep Alchemy can do its job.
The YIN-YANG is a perfect symbol for balancing the Yin / Lunar and Yang / Solar influences in us, under each Full Moon, esp. under this astrologically potent (SCO – TAU) and spirited Wesak Moon.
As above so below and within….
We ARE the field, and the buddhic catalysts for evolution and liberation…
Here is the Astrological Wesak Full Moon chart:
The FULL MOON will be exact at 5:58 pm PDT on Sunday Apr 29.
Our friends on the East Coast can experience the Full Moon (at 8:58 pm EDT) just after Moonrise!
Let’s see what the COSMIC MAP reveals:
The Full Moon holds the ground, and ‘underground’, through the fixed TAU – SCO axis.
We really need anchoring of wildly moving energies lately.
Once again, so much to process, esp. since mid-April:
- The ARIES New Moon on Apr 15 came with ‘stormy’ MERCURY in ARIES (went direct on Apr 15) and SATURN in CAP (went retro on Apr 17) – both in sharp square with each other (exact this week, Apr 25) – ouch! Communication collisions / confrontations anyone?
No need to put up with patronizing put-downs. Yes to standing our ground in inner authority, calmly setting boundaries, and wisely backing off as discourses would turn into fights that are a waste of time and energy.
- With CHIRON having entered ARIES on Apr 17 emerging from losing ourselves in overwhelm, chaos (PI) and showing up as our authentic Self is very healing, one baby step at a time. And, in CHIRON fashion, it teaches others what’s possible, and encourages them too.
- As MARS in CAP passed SATURN on Apr 2, LILITH on Apr 17, and PLUTO on Apr 26, energy has been freed up from resistance, fear, giving power away to external authority, and is available for us to be in our authentic nature-all power. From there we can do the work with the energy we have – and work more smoothly and empowered with natural energy and resources (inner and outer).
So yeah, we’ve needed time to process and ‘sit with’ these themes, to be aware of their deeper nature, and to let them process and transmute, for their inner purpose.
The CAP Re-Purpose Alliance says: Transform (let Nature and Higher Power transform!) and use everything – for its highest purpose – always a game (or: out-of-game) changer!
Now What?
The Astro Wesak Full Moon in SCO – TAU, in its strong electromagnetic field around Planet Earth, catalyzes and ‘downloads’ the other cosmic dynamics:
For one, and most obviously (even literally, with the naked eye if skies are clear): JUPITER in SCO!
The Full Moon approaches JUPITER, and goes conjunct with it on Apr 30 at 12:11 pm PDT.
For reference, this is the only Full Moon that catalyzes JUPITER in SCO (Oct 10, 2017 – Nov 8, 2018), and reversely the only time this year a Full MOON gets charged up by JUPITER!
Since JUPITER entered SCO in Oct 2017 issues have been revealed that are usually going on behind the scenes / in the underground, and which evoke deep responses and show where profound change for the better is soo due (“Me too!” started just days after JU went into SCO, FB data privacy breach / Cambridge Analytics scandals, school shootings…).
Those and similar intimate / hidden / covered / emotionally painful processes are now coming back to be deeply felt (SCO Full Moon) and transmuted from within (JU retro). This leads to empowerment from within, which has to do with self respect and being respected (JU sextile with LILITH / PLUTO / MARS in CAP).
13 Indigenous Grandmothers, with the white scarves offered to them by HH the Dalai Lama…
Speaking of respect and CAP:
The TAU SUN is in trine with SATURN retro in CAP, calling for common sense (not to be mixed up with maintaining the status quo).
What would the Earth and the Elders say???
In consult sessions with clients who have placements in CAP and a transit from PLUTO, I often ask them: How would Mother Earth be with this phase or situation of yours?
Going deeply into such an inquiry can restore living from Natural Law – which might appear simpler and slower, more patient, going with one’s natural rhythms and cycles, respecting our inner nature and Nature more. Being more sustainable in the long run.
The SUN has for one week ‘settled’ into the Taurean season (since Apr 19) after passing URANUS (on Apr 18):
Be conscious, awake and fresh in the NOW – this is IT, you are HERE!
URANUS is still close to the SUN, so we experience the polar opposite to the super deep (JUPITER enhanced) SCO Full MOON the bright liberating Solar / Uranian consciousness!
What a polarity to integrate – what a sacred marriage of rich, fertile Inner Depth and bright outer Light!
URANUS will actually enter TAU for its first phase, on the DAY of the TAU New Moon, May 15 (until Nov 6, and then fully from March 6, 2019 on, until 2025 / 26).
That’s Big News – one of the major shifts of 2018 / 19!
And this is the Full Moon that brings it out already, on the side of the SUN in early TAU!
This is to the Buddha Nature that reveals itself always freshly – in Nature and in YOU!
Even (often especially) in and through our darkest times!
The Sun Rules Leo – Painting by Johfra Bosschart
As you see in the chart, the Full Moon axis of MOON (close to JUPITER) in SCO and SUN in TAU (close to URANUS) squares the North Node of the Moon in LEO (and hence also the South Node in AQ)!
Astrologically a fixed T-square / Grand Cross (with SN extension)!
Lots of tension / stress that’s been built up, held, contained, and stuck (fixed) calls to be creatively expressed through ‘the best of LEO’ – a loving Heart, generosity, and childlike playfulness!
Show yourself more fully from your Heart, and in your true colours (rather than overcompensating with ‘trying to look good) – and of course, that includes the darker sides too which teach us so much, and transmute ‘muck’ into Gold.
Understandably free loving self expression doesn’t always come easy and natural like this right away… Start with giving yourself permission to express and purge your otherwise hidden and controlled ‘dark feelings’.
Like yep, as I said above, no need to put up with abuse of power and lack of integrity. Let your Inner Child show you what’s hurtful, and be a good Inner Parent / Inner Elder (SATURN now retro) to him / her. See where the process goes, and let the Heart lead!
Less is more, when it comes to AQ South Node low vibrations / qualities that drain us:
Being dissociated, alienated, indifferent, blase – arrogant, remote, or just watching the show of others’ fun and playful creativity without creatively playing ourselves.
So yeah, the Inner Buddha is the Loving and Beloved Child in us!
Come join us at our WESAK MOON Astro Circle on Sunday eve!
Indoors for the Astro ComMOONity part – with everyone’s chart involved, and outdoors thereafter if skies are clear to greet the risen FULL MOON over the ocean.
You and your friends are welcome (esp. but not exclusively with SCO – TAU in your chart) in person if you’re in Victoria or of course online!
Please let others know about it too. Merci! ❤
