AQUARIUS New Moon on Feb 4 – Freedom for New Light!

2 Feb

Dear Astro~News Reader,

Uranus Rules Aquarius – Painting by Johfra Bosschart

The Days are getting longer, and the Light is coming in stronger…
AQUARUS brings Light, Prana, and fresh AIR.

And as the 2nd NEW MOON after WINTER SOLSTICE, the AQ NEW MOON also heralds the CHINESE NEW YEAR – the day after, on FEB 5 (see special CNY feature) –

When’s the AQ New MOON?
At 1:04 pm PST on FEB 4.
Nice date-time alignment 🙂

The AQ New MOON links up with MERCURY / LILITH, both also in AQ, and both being met by the MOON on that day too – see chart image below.
What does it mean to be in your ‘wild and free Nature’?
A wildly refreshing and liberating energy… like taking in new Prana and fresh AIR that connects us all…
…post the ‘rocky’ and heavy CAP vibes over weeks – which also showed
(via SATURN / PLUTO / South Node) where things are indeed ‘expiring’.

Voila – the Cosmic Map for the AQ NEW MOON

Quite striking:

A whole line-up of Planets, embracing the SUN & MOON union, are concentrated in the Zodiac Field from mid-SAG to end of ARIES – within 140° – with the North Node end of CANCER counter-balancing so much Winter-to-early Spring energy.
A planetary pattern called a ‘Basket’, with the NN being the basket ‘handle’.

And it’s quite unusual (very Aquarian in that sense) that presently there are 4 PLANETS in their own ruled ZODIAC signs:

MARS in ARIES (until Feb 14)
JUPITER in SAG (until Dec 2)
SATURN in CAP (until Dec 17, 2020)
NEPTUNE in PISCES (until 2026).

Plus, NO Planet is retro (until March 5 when MERCURY goes retro).

All in all, cosmic energy can move and expresses purely – facilitating accelerated shifts and evolution.

So, let’s see what’s in the ‘New MOON Basket’, and how to pick it up, via the NN in CANCER:

  • Starting with JUPITER in mid / towards end of its own ruled sign SAG (where it travels and inspires us this year (precisely Nov 8, 2018 – Dec 2, 2019).
JUPITER is just coming out of its 1st (of 3 in 2019) square with NEPTUNE, these years 2012 – 2026 also in its own sign PISCES (their square was exact on Jan 13, and comes back in June and Sept).
Being in a spirit of gratitude and abundance elevates our vibration, lightens us up, and brings us into flow and connectedness. Coming from the Heart and following its call, and sharing our Gifts with the World attracts synchronicities and ‘miracles’.

  • Next up: VENUS, freshly in CAP (Feb 3 – March 1), on the ‘Integrity Point’ – a magnet to attract what’s ‘real’ and in integrity / really works for us, while ‘in the meantime’ it’s also a ‘match’ & mirror for where we’re at, with our self value and self love.
With VENUS in CAP, on her way to meet SATURN, on Feb 18, just the day before the Full Moon, we might feel called to make a timely & important commitment – in the area of life related to mid-CAP in our charts. And what’s done and complete (even though you used to love it)?

  • Then, SATURN, solidly anchored in mid-CAP (also the sign it rules, and checks in on these years, Dec 2017 – Dec 2020) – in sextile with NEPTUNE in its own oceanic Piscean realm (the 1st of 3 alignments between them this year was exact just on Jan 31, again in June and Nov).
Time to stand in who we are, let go of old patterns, esp. revolving around judgment, resistance, and doing things ‘the hard way’.
A good combo between dreams, visions, and realism / manifestation.
What does it take to make your dreams come true? Chances are, being in flow and synch with the Universe (PI) and in receiving mode has to do with it. 🙂 Doesn’t mean we have to say YES to everything that comes our way. SATURN helps us with being clear about what works for us, and NEPTUNE in PI to let go of the rest – with Love.

  • SATURN is also approaching PLUTO this year – closest in Apr / May at 20 – 23° CAP, when both are stationary, as they go from direct to retro, PLUTO on Apr 24 and SATURN on Apr 29.
Next year, on Jan 12, 2020, the rare (every 38 years) conjunction will be exact. It closes a cycle of societal structural breakdown, purging of its shadow, and rebuilding from the core / basics.
The SATURN – PLUTO conjunction will be almost exact on the U.S. PLUTO (plus, the country has its 1st PLUTO Return at 27°33′ CAP in 2021-23- every 248 years only – speaking of regeneration from its core and soul!).

  • The Lunar South Node in late CAP is (while moving retro) soon lining up with PLUTO (exact on March 29) and with SATURN (in effect all the way from mid-May until end of Sept!).
One of the main themes this year, and has been already activated with the CAP New Moon Partial Solar Release Eclipse on Jan 5 / 6 (“Let the Old Empire Expire.”).
It’ll come back into the picture big time with the CAN NM / Total Solar ‘Seed’ Eclipse opposite SATURN / SN / PLUTO, on July 2, and with the CAP / CAN FM / Partial Lunar ‘Release’ Eclipse on July 16.

All pointing to the end of a CAPricornian era of hierarchical top-down structures / control systems that are anachronistic, abusive, and destructive for all life forms.
And the seed of a New World of caring and compassion – catalyzed by the North Node in CANCER phase (Nov 2018 – June 2020) – “Because we Care.”

  • Gentleness, Caring, and Compassion while making sure to fill our own cup too are themes of the North Node in CAN Basket Handle.
It can help us ‘pick up’ the ‘basket’ of critical themes presented at this time, collectively, and in our personal world, and show up for what’s our ‘assignment’ – yet not to pick up what’s not ours to carry
    (SN and Planets in CAP).

  • Then, quite centrally in the Cosmic Basket:
The AQ New MOON and MERCURY / LILITH – New Light & Freedom, and Freedom for New Light!
Mid-AQ where the New MOON will be is double AQ:
Fixed energy concentrates there, with the theme of Humanity consciously cooperating.

Let’s see which hints the
SABIAN SYMBOL for the New MOON offers.
The NEW MOON will be at 15°45 AQ.

“AQUARIUS 16°:

A BIG BUSINESSMAN AT HIS DESK.

KEYNOTE: The ability to organize the many aspects of an enterprise involving a large group of human beings.

A great deal of what is glowingly written about the Aquarian Age is probably sheer glamour. The New Age should be one in which humanity learns to use the power generated by human togetherness and group interplay — that is, to use it harmoniously for the welfare of the whole of which all individuals are parts, humanity and Planet Earth. This has never been achieved and only very rarely attempted. Mankind today must make a thorough and irresistible attempt, or be nearly destroyed — except for a creative “remnant” of seed-persons who would have to begin again from new foundations. In the field of big business, of huge war undertakings (like the Normandy landing in World War II) or of major national efforts (like the Moon landings) great results have been achieved, but the motive and the quality of the human interrelationships involved were neither of permanent significance nor invested with a truly harmonic quality. The character of the techniques used were totally unsatisfactory from a “human” point of view. Nevertheless there is much to learn from modern large-scale management and systems analysis, even in terms of personal endeavors of very limited scope.

This is the first stage in the sixty-fourth five-fold sub-cycle. It introduces the concept of management which is basic at this period of the cyclic life process which the zodiac symbolizes, yet which needs to be totally reevaluated if mankind is to actualize the spiritual potentialities implied in the evolutionary transformation just ahead. ORGANATION should be the Keyword, rather than mere “organization”; for humanity now can and should realize that it is indeed an ‘organism’.”

Please note:
Eminent astrologer Dane Rudhyar wrote this interpretation of the Sabian Symbols in 1973 – 46 years ago, hence the language carries a somewhat antiquated tone yet the themes are timeless.

And this one is even very timely, given the urgency for Humanity (beyond our political representatives) to co-avert a climate catastrophe, and co-create a livable, cleaner, greener, lighter, freer and socially just and responsible future.
How can this immense undertaking be possible and coordinated?
Perhaps the initiatory challenge to even enter the Aquarian Age.

This AQ New MOON is signaling us:
A Seed is planted. We need to co-intend, co-envision (JUPITER-NEPTUNE help with this), and concretely tend it (says SATURN) – together.
And – with the Lunar North Node in CANCER:
Prioritizing human need over corporate greed, and tending to the needs of our fellow animal and plant Beings – so that a peaceful Future together is possible where the next 7 generations and beyond can thrive, on Planet Earth.

  • MERCURY – exalted / best positioned in AQ aligning with LILITH in AQ on the DAY of the New MOON (an only once-a-year happening) is also quite striking.
The Voice of Freedom, from our ‘wild’ and Natural Self.

  • More ‘New MOON Basket’ Goodies:
NEPTUNE in PI – yes, triple-squared by JUPITER & triple-sextiled by SATURN this year –
All about Unity, Connection, Oneness Consciousness – which is also the ‘like-heals-like’ Medicine for overwhelm and feeling lost.
Speaking of Medicine, Cosmic Medicine Wo/man CHIRON is now in its very last DAYS in PISCES (since 2010).
On Feb 18, it will cross over the ‘Emergence Point’ into ARIES, for the next 8 years, until Apr 14, 2027 – The Medicine of Being Authentically YOU.
CHIRON already ‘tried on’ AR last year, Apr – Sept.

So yeah, coming out of our Piscean slumber of collective consciousness might be scary yet
hugely liberating, and the Medicine the World needs now.

  • In ARIES, MARS the Warrior enlivens and kicks us into action these days (since Dec 31 actually) – and we’re coming up to the Grand Finale for MARS in AR:
MARS in AR conj. URANUS (every 2 years only) on Feb 12.
Liberation and breakthroughs across the board. Revolutionary energy.
Can easily turn into societal / political protests and riots. Hopefully, instead of a re-active a pro-active and innovative direction is being taken.
    Birth the New Self!

So there we have it – a Cosmic Basket of Archetype activation!
My we pick up what’s ours, with / for LOVE… and: Because we Care.

And, as mentioned – worth saying it again:
NO Planets are presently retro – until March 5, when MERCURY goes retro, on the day before the PI NEW MOON. We’re in a phase where things can and want to move forward – into the NEW.

By the way, I’m being asked quite often, and you might wonder too:

Is the AQUARIUS AGE already here?
Or when does it start?

No clear-cut ‘scientifically correct’ answer for this – very Aquarian.
Yes, according to astronomical calculations the AQ Age starts when the Spring Equinox point will move (always backwards, and very, very gradually) out of PISCES and into AQ – apparently in the year 2597 – faaaar ahead.

But for one thing, there are ‘overlaps’ in the constellations.
And there are other indications, besides the ‘mere’ calculations.

Over the last 20 years, we’ve seen a ‘preview’ of what the AQ Age could be about:

  • URANUS and NEPTUNE were united in AQ in the late 1990’s – they have 84- and 165-year cycle, and a conjunction in AQ is super rare.
    What happened then?
Personal computers became accessible for everyone, and the Internet took off, and changed our social, communicative, and work world forever. In the meantime, the Internet is omnipresent, in any area of life, and continuously being developed!
  • PLUTO (with its 248-year cycle) will go into AQ in 2023 / 24.
There’s a big time AQ Evolution coming up.

Looks like Humanity really needs to and can cooperate much more than ever.
Since things get intense and extreme with PLUTO, we can also see a lot of alienation and encapsulation, loneliness, social awkwardness, and other side effects of the technological self-sufficiency…
Endeavours of replacing humans with robots will increase, and perhaps a massive ‘Space Age’ will break out, with settlements on other Planets, if Earth becomes uninhabitable – whoooaah!

Let’s already / any time co-create with the AQ energy, be innovative (URANUS / Prometheus, the AQ related Planetary Archetype loves that), connect with like-spirited others in integrity, and cooperate in Circles and Community into the future, a future ON Planet Earth, I’d propose.

Blessings for the AQ Times!
Needless to say (I do it anyway):

Astrology is an Aquarian Art.

Happy CHINESE NEW YEAR of the Yin Earth PIG, Starting Feb 5!

31 Jan

Dear Astro~News blog Reader,

Are you ‘into’ Chinese Astrology?
Using it for Feng Shui?
‘Simply’ curious?

Here’s my East-West honouring of the Chinese New Year.
Happy New Year of the Yin Earth PIG!

The Upcoming New Moon on MoOnday Feb 4 at 1:04 pm PST at 15º45’ AQ initiates the CHINESE NEW YEAR of the Yin EARTH PIG, starting on the following day, Feb 5.

In BC, with strong Chinese communities, we have quite an awareness of Chinese Astrology and year cycles.
Did you know? Victoria has the oldest Chinatown in Canada!

Dragon Guardians in Chinatown – Photo by Melanie, Feb 5, 2018

And even though, the Chinese population is about only 3300 (4%), Chinese New Year Celebrations are alive and well – a well-loved tradition in the City. The Chinese New Year will be celebrated in Chinatown on Sunday, Feb 10 – always on the Sunday after the CNY – with traditional Lion’s Dance, fun performances, before Lions walk through the streets of Chinatown to visit the shops, bring blessings, eat the lettuce, and snatch the bills and red envelopes – for the Chinese Benevolent Society.

The BIG Vancouver CNY Parade will be also on Feb 10. Metro Vancouver has a large Chinese population of about 475 000 (about 20%)!

EARTH PIG Year on the Horizon…

Spring is already in the air, and shows up from the ground up, here on the West Coast (even though the weather report says frost and flurries over the next week…).

And the air gets cleared for this year’s So(u)lar union / New MOON in airy AQ, on Feb 4.
Feb 5, the day after the 2nd New Moon after Winter Solstice, is the start of the CHINESE NEW YEAR in China, all over South-East Asia, and in Chinese communities worldwide.

The Yang Earth DOG Year (since Feb 16, 2018) having called us to ‘walk the talk’ is now walking out. Combined  with SATURN freshly in CAP, it’s been a grounding year, showing us where our Integrity, Loyalty and Values are.

With these qualities (hopefully!) established, let’s invite the Yin EARTH PIG’s promise of Joy and Abundance – together with JUPITER this year in SAG…!
There’s of course more to the Earth PIG… we shall see.

Check out my perspectives below.

Chinese ‘Astrology’ – Basic Intro

The Chinese calendar is Lunar based (as in Islamic, Mayan, Native American cultures), and therefore the New Year varies every year. It traditionally starts with the day following the 2nd New Moon after Winter Solstice.

Yes, there is also a Chinese Astrology based on the planetary movements in relation to the star constellations of the Zodiac, like our Western Astrology system.
But that’s not what’s being addressed here… (ha – wayyy too complex).

The more popular Chinese system is based on two interlocking ‘wheels’ of cycles:

The Cycle of the 12 Animals = 12 earthly branches.
These are in sequence:
Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

The cycle of the 5 Elements = 5 heavenly stems:
Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood.

Therefore, there are 60 possible Animal & Element combinations, and they repeat every 60 years.
The Elements are ‘on’ for 2 years, with alternating Yang and Yin polarity.

For instance, after a Yin Fire Rooster year (Jan 28, 2017 – Feb 15, 2018) came a Yang Earth Dog year (Feb 16, 2018 – Feb 4, 2019).

As mentioned, the Chinese cycles aren’t directly based on planetary cycles or related to star constellations.
But the 12-year Animal cycle corresponds roughly with the 12-year JUPITER transit cycle. So, when you have your JUPITER Return you also have the Return of your Chinese Year Animal.
Makes sense?

So these are the cycles of yearly Animals who come with changing Elements, and the Yin / Yang association of each Animal.

Yet, the Chinese cyclical system has more combinations than just the yearly ones – the so-called Four Pillars:

  • The Yin-Yang Animal / Element of the YEAR – the ‘Outer Animal’.
…which would in Western Astrology compare with the sign JUPITER was in at the year of birth.
  • The Yin-Yang Animal / Element of the MONTH of birth – a.k.a. ‘Inner Animal’.
…which would compare with the 12 Zodiac SUN sign cycle.
  • The  Yin-Yang Animal / Element of the DAY of the week – a.k.a. ‘Private Animal’.
…which would roughly compare with the MOON sign.
  • The Yin-Yang Animal / Element of the HOUR of birth – a.k.a. ‘Secret Animal’ – only people who know your birth time would know it. With a 2-hour range per Animal.
…comparable with AC signs in he Western system.

As you see, the system is much more differentiated and complex in its combinations and variables than at first glance, with just the ‘Year of the…’.
12 x 5 Year combinations, 12 x 5 Month combinations, 12 x 5 Day combinations, and 12 x 5 Hour combinations = total 12,960,000 combinations are possible!

In Your 4 Pillars, you can have either of the Animals and Elements, with 12 Animals x 5 Elements = 60 possible combinations in each pillar. In the 4 Pillars 60 x 60 x 60 x 60 different variations are possible = 12,960 000!
This much for the statement: “I’m a Rooster!” If that’s the (outer) animal of the YEAR for you, check out which of the 5 Elements it belongs to, and also what’s in your other 3 Pillars!
In our East-West Parlour on Feb 4, I’ll provide you with a calculation of YOUR 4 Pillars!

And now for the PIG!

The PIG is the last of the 12 Chinese Animals.

According to the myths, the PIG was the last to arrive when the Jade Emperor called for the great meeting. Other sources said that Buddha called for a great meeting when he was about to leave the Earth. The PIG came in last.
Legend has it that just as the emperor was about to call it a day, an oink and squeal was heard from a little Pig. The Pig had gotten hungry during the race, promptly stopped for a feast then fell asleep. After the nap, the Pig continued the race and was named the 12th and last animal of the Zodiac cycle.
Or hey, maybe it was a Yin Piggy momma looking getting her piglets on board… (my comment).

The PIG is considered Yin by nature, and its Element is Water.
Thus, it is commonly associated with emotions and intuitions – fitting its association with the Western Zodiac sign of SCORPIO.

So let’s see how – despite the fact that JUPITER is out of SCO since Nov 2018 – there’ll be also a scorpionic tone to the PIG Year.

Yet, this Year’s PIG is an EARTHy One.
We’re in two (Yang & Yin) EARTH Element Years now which started with the Yang Earth Dog Year, followed by the Yin Earth PIG.

2018 / 19 has been also in the Western Astrology very Earthy:
SATURN entered (just before the Yang Earth Dog Year started) its own mountainous domain of rock-solid CAPRICORN (Dec 2017 – Dec 2020), requiring from us to ‘walk the talk / dog’, live in Integrity, from our best and highest Self, prioritize what matters most, and get the work done (yet not the hard way).
Revolutionary URANUS will shake up, and liberate Earthy TAURUS from March 6, 2019 on
(comes with the next NEW MOON!) for the next 7 years, until Apr 26, 2026.
A wake-up call of Mother Earth?
An economic / monetary / food revolution???
A radical change of values?
A new way of being in our Senses and EmBodied?
Rising of the Goddess!

Chinese Character Zhū – Pig

The last Yin EARTH PIG Year was Feb 8, 1959 – Jan 27, 1960.

If you’re about 60 years old, you have this year your Chinese Element / Animal Return (together with the Western Astrology 2nd SATURN and 5th JUPITER Return).
In case you have grandchildren 60 years younger than you, you share your Animal / Element combo with them.

The last PIG Years (with different Element combinations) were (Jan / Feb until Jan / Feb the following year) 1935-36, 1947-48, 1959-60, 1971-72, 1983-84, 1995-96, 2007-08. Please find specific dates, and a more detailed intro to the Chinese Elements and Animal Cycles here.

Yang Earth DOG Year Review

The DOG started 2 Years in the EARTH Element (Yang DOG and Yin PIG) – the Element of the Centre.

With the EARTH Element, a grounding, stabilizing, and balancing energy is offered, and required(!).

Simultaneously, SATURN entered its own earthy sign of CAP in Dec 2017, until Dec 2020, encompassing the EARTH Dog & Pig Years, and going into the Metal Rat Year.
PLUTO is also in CAP (until 2023), and JUPITER will follow, on Dec 2, 2019.
As URANUS will also shift into earthy TAU this year
(from March 6 on), a lot of unsettling energy can wake & shake us up from old habits and attachments, and for new freedom.

EARTH is in the Chinese system associated with

  • The Centre (also in Feng Shui / the BaGua)
  • The Change of Seasons (rather than ONE season)
  • The Planet SATURN – corresponds with SATURN being in earthy CAP now.
  • The Colour Yellow.
  • The Yellow Dragon.
  • The digestive system, spleen, and stomach.

Good to strengthen / be supported by all those attributes, always, and esp. in these two EARTH years.

Do these DOG Characteristics relate to YOUR last year (and to the DOG in your natal 4 Pillars, in case you have one there)?

Of all the Chinese Animals the DOG is the friendliest and kindest.
DOGs like to serve and being of use. They are the epitome of loyalty and faithfulness.
DOG has an association with the Western Zodiac sign LIBRA.
Known to be very relational, loyal, reserved, quiet, helpful, practical, unpretentious (after Rooster), calm in a crisis, keeping equilibrium in chaos, yet always ready to respond.
They thrive on team work and have a strong sense of duty in the community.
DOGs are eager to please. They seek companionship, and friend-ly relationship, and can go out of their way to be praised and approved of. DOGs are also very outgoing and social, love to be seen and loved, and thrive on contact and company / their pack – otherwise they become a lone wolf… (a theme that came up just recently, with the Total Lunar Eclipse ‘Wolf Moon’ on Jan 20 / 21, on  the LEO / AQ cusp).
They’re honest, intelligent, with a sense of justice, fairness, and integrity, affectionate and sociable, trustworthy, yet hard to forgive if the trust they’ve offered is being abused.
Rather an expert in certain things than a ‘jack of all trades’. They don’t need much, yet when in need hey’re very resourceful. They need purpose, be motivated and acknowledged, otherwise they’re unfulfilled.
Having high standards, they can easily become judgmental, cynical (a word derived from Latin canis = dog) and pessimistic.

Many of these traits are also very apropos SATURN over the last year in CAP where we’ve experienced this spectrum of experience.
DOGs can do everything for others (LIBRA), even to a degree of martyrdom, or being taken advantage of (CAP).
Being dogged and fatalistic are shadow expressions of the DOG.
Success is a result of consistent effort. They can make a sound adviser and good leader  – who demands loyalty, and dedication to the work (again very apropos SATURN in CAP).

These characteristics of a DOG year / month / day / hour born person
(or dog!) can be translated into the Earth DOG year we’re just coming out of:

Very Earthy Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog (Creative Commons photo)

  • A year where the call for justice, integrity, and true leadership became stronger and stronger.
  • With JUPITER in SCO, in combo with PLUTO in CAP also an impulse for transformation of structures and leadership.
  • Loyalty to a ‘pack’, and defending integrity and principles could have become a big theme. Hopefully not to a degree where loyal ‘serfs’ are conditioned to to ‘do everything’ for their master.
  • Well, yeah, check in who or what might turn into your master, and how to take Authority back.

This is to Integrity DOGs and Protectors who stand up in Loyalty for Mother EARTH, and all her Life Forms!

The Yin Earth PIG, and its Year

PIGs love pleasure, and for them as watery Zodiac beings, this includes the pleasures of delving into their emotional turmoil and depths (fits the SCORPIO association of the PIG) – even though this might appear to the outside world as self-indulgence, and ‘rolling in the mud’.

Their Yin Nature makes them rather withdrawn, enjoying the quiet and peaceful of a private setting. They’re dedicated to home, family, and children, and known to make the best out of every situation.

They’re sociable, trusting, passionate, intelligent, and endowed with a good instinct and common sense, hence sought-after caring and empathetic friends, mentors and advisers.
Since they love enjoyment and the good things in life they’re great hosts who love to entertain their friends, yet can tend towards indulgence and materialism – reflected in the shadow of JUPITER this year in SAG – “more is better”. Good to channel the energy into true Happiness from within.

PIGs seek beauty and sensual love, yet also need a partner who gives them space to explore their own emotional life.
Their shadow is to be overly trusting and naive (just because it’s enjoyable doesn’t mean it’s good for you), which may have them flip into its polar opposite (like SCORPIO can do) of setting high standards, being suspicious and pessimistic.

Seems like the PIG has qualities of SCO but also TAURUS – when it comes to the enjoyment / indulgence side.

What do these characteristics of a PIG year / month / day / hour person add up to, for the Yin EARTH PIG YEAR to come?

  • We already did the JUPITER in SCO delving in the depth last year – maybe less of that PIG trait to be seen this year.
  • So yeah, a year of ‘legit’ pleasure – perhaps through having learned from the DOG year and SATURN in CAP, rather than doing things hard way it’s better and more pleasurable to do them the smart and still effective way.
  • With URANUS going into TAU on March 6, we might discover new ways of living that are surprisingly enjoyable, incl. finding a new turf where we’re happy as a PIG in mud 🙂 without breaking the piggy bank. 🙂

On that note, yes, new ways of feeding the Piggy bank is always nice, and extra supported in the Earth Piggy Year.

Plus, let’s invite what the German saying: Schwein haben promises = literally to ‘have Pig’ means having good luck.
JUPITER this year in SAG likes and supports that too.

Happy CHINESE NEW YEAR of the Yang Earth DOG, Starting Feb 16!

9 Feb

Dear Astro~News blog Reader,

Are you ‘into’ Chinese Astrology?
Using it for Feng Shui?
‘Simply’ curious?

Here’s my East-West honouring of the Chinese New Year.
Happy New Year of the Yang Earth DOG!

The Upcoming New Moon on Thursday Feb 15 at 1:05 pm PST at 27º07’ AQ initiates the CHINESE NEW YEAR of the YANG EARTH DOG, starting on the following day, Feb 16.

In BC, with strong Chinese communities, we have quite an awareness of Chinese Astrology and year cycles.
Did you know? Victoria has the oldest Chinatown in Canada!

Dragon Guardians – Photo by Melanie, Feb 5, 2018

The BIG parade however will be in Vancouver on Feb 18 – no wonder, given the large Chinese population!

Here in Victoria where the Chinese population is about 30 000, the Chinese New Year will be celebrated again in Chinatown on Sunday, Feb 18 – always on the Sunday after the CNY – with traditional Lion’s Dance, fun performances, before the Lions will walk through the streets of Chinatown to visit the shops, bring blessings, eat the lettuce that’s prepared for it, and snatch the bills and red envelopes – for the Chinese Benevolent Society.

The last Yang Earth Dog year was Feb 18, 1958 – Feb 7, 1959.

Chinese Character GOU – Dog

When you’re about 60 years old, you get your Chinese element / animal return (together with the Western Astrology 2nd SATURN and 5th JUPITER return). And if you have grandchildren 60 years younger than you, you share your Animal / Element combo with them.

The last DOG years (with different Element combinations) were (Jan / Feb until Jan / Feb the following year) 1933-5, 1946-7, 1958-9, 1970-71, 1982-83, 1994-5, 2006-7.

Please find specific dates, and more detailed intro to the Chinese Elements and Animal Cycles here.

For the DOG years, check out this table:

Start date End date Heavenly branch
14 February 1934 3 February 1935 Wood Dog
2 February 1946 21 January 1947 Fire Dog
18 February 1958 7 February 1959 Earth Dog
6 February 1970 26 January 1971 Metal Dog
25 January 1982 12 February 1983 Water Dog
10 February 1994 30 January 1995 Wood Dog
29 January 2006 17 February 2007 Fire Dog
16 February 2018 4 February 2019 Earth Dog
2 February 2030 22 January 2031 Metal Dog
22 January 2042 9 February 2043 Water Dog

The cycles have more combinations than just the yearly ones –
The so-called 4 Pillars:

  • The Animal / Elements of the YEAR (which would in Western Astrology compare with the sign JUPITER was in at the year of birth), a.k.a. the ‘outer animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the MONTH of birth (which would compare with the 12 Zodiac SUN sign cycle), a.k.a. ‘inner animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the DAY of the week (which would roughly compare with the MOON sign), a.k.a. ‘private animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the HOUR of birth, with a 2-hour range per animal, and rotating with elements (comparable with AC signs), a.k.a. ‘secret animal’ – only people who know your birth time would know it.

So, in fact, the system is much more differentiated and complex in its combinations and variables than at first glance, with the ‘Year of the…’ only.

12 x 5 Year combinations, 12 x 5 Month combinations, 12 x 5 Day combinations, and 12 x 5 Hour combinations = total 12,960,000 combinations are possible!

Rooster Review

FIRE (the last 2 years, with Yang Monkey and Yin Rooster) is the Element of the South, which stands for passion and creativity, adventure, leadership, the colour red, Summer, and relates to the planet MARS.
Simultaneously, SATURN was in fiery SAG in those years.

Coming out of the Yin Fire Rooster – a Phoenix Bird year it was!

Did you know that Fire in the 5 Chinese Elements is also associated with the Vermillion Bird / Phoenix? A double whammy…?!

phoenix-fire

The Phoenix out of the Ashes process has been on:

Burning off what we aren’t anymore, or fooled by, has been a big theme this year.
And all the wildfires!!!
Trusting we won’t see another series of those, this EARTH Year.

Rooster likes to show off, and is everything but shy.

“Show your colours!” has been also a theme for the Lunar NORTH NODE, in LEO since end of Apr. 2017 for 1½ years. And “Take a stand for what is close to your Heart!” said SATURN in SAG. It’s not about right or wrong. It’s about Living Life Lovingly, and directed from Inner Truth.

Rooster’s shadow is Ego bolstering – “Look at ME!”, narcissism, and creating a ‘Harem’ / following of admirers. As it usually goes, a lot of that drawing of attention can be an over compensation for inner sensitivity, insecurity, and being easily hurt by criticism – even though critical him/herself, and a perfectionist, possibly being overly zealous and opinionated – we’ve seen a lot of that kind of display over the last year!!!

The FIRE Rooster can be even more flamboyant, aggressive (cock fight style), know-it-all, and dramatic.

I’m not saying every person born in the Fire Rooster year (1957 – 58, and babies born 2017 – 18) has these character traits – wouldn’t be my style, and wouldn’t make sense to generalize in that way.
Also, as mentioned, the Chinese system has its 4 pillars (see above) that modify the characteristics.

But let’s be aware of these traits in ourselves and in the world ‘outside’, in integration of the Rooster year, and meet them with what they are really about.

  • Why are we / are people seeking attention?
  • What is it that we really need to show to others?
  • What is the (self)awareness that is important now?

What’s been going on with JUPITER, the 12-year cycle planet, in the Rooster Phoenix year?

JUPITER entered SCORPIO on Oct 10. 2017, and will continue to travel through scorpionic ‘dark places’ until Nov 8, 2018, when it enters its own domain, SAGITTARIUS.
Big and deep change is under way. From SCO to SAG is the ‘Phoenix Point’ in the Zodiac where we rise into Freedom, seeing the Bigger Picture… maybe a ‘Phoenix’ delay effect in Western Astrology…

The Yang Earth Dog, and its Year

This year, a new Element is coming in, for 2 years:
EARTH / Kun, after 2 years of FIRE / Li.

A grounding, stabilizing, and balancing energy is offered, and required(!).
EARTH energy is also quite emphasized in Western Astrology this year:

SATURN entered its own earthy sign CAPRICORN (Dec 19, 2017 – Dec 17, 2020), approaching PLUTO there (conj. will be in early 2020), and LILITH being in CAP this year too – until Aug 6.
URANUS will enter earthy TAURUS (can be disruptive there, and we surely need grounding in the ‘storm’) on May 15, until Nov 6 (when it goes back into AR, before finally entering TAU on March 6, 2019).

Good to strengthen / be supported by all those attributes, always, and esp. in the next two EARTH years (Yang Earth DOG, followed by Yin Earth PIG).

What’s with the (always Yang attributed) DOG / Gou?

Dogs are also very outgoing and social, and thrive on contact and company – otherwise they become a lone wolf…
They’re honest, intelligent, with a sense of justice, fairness, and integrity, affectionate and sociable, trustworthy, yet hard to forgive if the trust they’ve offered is being abused.
Rather an expert in certain things than a ‘jack of all trades’. They don’t need much, yet when in need they’re very resourceful. They need purpose, be motivated and acknowledged, otherwise they’re unfulfilled. Having high standards, they can easily become judgmental, cynical, and pessimistic.
All of these traits are also very apropos SATURN now in CAPRICORN.
They can do everything for others (LIBRA), even to a degree of martyrdom, or being taken advantage of (CAP).
Being dogged and fatalistic are borderline shadow expression of the DOG characteristics.
Success is a result of consistent effort. They can make a sound adviser and good leader  – who demands loyalty, and dedication to the work.

These characteristics of a DOG year / month / day / hour person (or dog, lol) can also be translated into the Earth DOG year to come:

Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog (Creative Commons)

A year where a call for justice, integrity, and true leadership becomes stronger and stronger, common sense, and (with JUPITER in SCO, relating to PLUTO in CAP) also an impulse for transformation of structures and their (if not the principle of) leadership.
Loyalty to a ‘pack’, and defending integrity and principles can become a big theme.
Hopefully not to a degree where loyal ‘serfs’ are being used to ‘do everything’ for their master.

We need to see – and become – rather Integrity DOGS who stand up in Loyalty for Mother EARTH, and all her life forms.

As we move into the CHINESE NEW YEAR, and under the waning-before-NEW MOON, let’s clear space and energy for the NEW!
FENG SHUI helps with organizing and streamlining our environment – which makes life simpler, easier, and foremost: directs the energy flow in optimal and naturally aligned ways.

In our East-West CNY & Feng Shui Parlour on Thu Feb 15, we’ll explore the (and YOUR) Chinese System and the Western Astrology, plus basic Feng Shui principles.

You’ll also receive a 14-p. E-Booklet with lots of helpful Feng Shui tips.

If you don’t come to our CNY Parlour you can still order the 14 p. Feng Shui Tips E-Booklet for $ 4.14 via e-transfer, or PayPal. I email it to you upon payment.

Chinese New Year of the Yin Fire Rooster – The Phoenix Bird: Jan 28, 2017 – Feb 15, 2018

26 Jan

chinese-phoenix

The Upcoming New Moon on Friday Jan 27 at 4:07 pm PST at 8º15’ AQ initiates the Chinese New Year of the Yin Fire Rooster which starts on the following day, Jan 28.

In BC, with strong Chinese communities, we have quite an awareness of Chinese Astrology and year cycles.
Did you know? Victoria has the oldest Chinatown in Canada! The BIG parade however will be in Vancouver on Jan 28 – no wonder, given the large Chinese population.

Here in Victoria where the Chinese population is about 30 000, the Chinese New Year will be celebrated again in Chinatown on Sunday, Jan 29 – always on the Sunday after the CNY – with traditional Lion’s Dance and fun performances.

Introduction to the Chinese Animal and Element Cycles

The Chinese calendar is Lunar based (as in Islamic, Mayan, Native American cultures), and therefore the New Year varies every year. It traditionally starts with the day following the second New Moon after Winter Solstice.

Yes, there is also a Chinese Astrology based on the planetary movements in relation to the star constellations of the Zodiac, like our Western Astrology system.

The more popular system is based on two interlocking ‘wheels’ of cycles:

The cycle of the 12 Animals = 12 earthly branches. These are in sequence: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

The cycle of the 5 Elements = 5 heavenly stems: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood.

Therefore, there are 60 possible Animal & Element combinations, and they repeat every 60 years. The Elements stay ‘on’ for 2 years, with alternating Yang and Yin polarity.

For instance, after a Yang Fire Monkey year (Feb 8, 2016 – Jan 27, 2017) the comes the Yin Fire Rooster year from Jan 28, 2017 to Feb 15, 2018.

The Chinese cycles aren’t directly based on planetary cycles or related to star constellations. But the 12-year animal cycle corresponds roughly with the 12-year JUPITER transit cycle. So, when you have your JUPITER Return you also have the Return of your Chinese year animal. Makes sense?

The last Yang Fire Rooster year was Jan 30, 1957 – Feb 17, 1958.

When you are about 60 years old, you get your Chinese element / animal return (together with the Western Astrology 2nd SATURN and 5th JUPITER return). And if you have grandchildren 60 years younger than you, you share your Animal / Element combo with them.

The last Rooster years (with different Element combinations) were (Jan / Feb that year until Jan / Feb following year) 1933-4, 1945-6, 1957-8, 1969-70, 1981-2, 1993-4, 2005-6.

Find specific dates, and more detailed intro to the Chinese Elements and Animal Cycles here.

For the Rooster years, check out this table:

Start date End date Heavenly branch
26 January 1933 13 February 1934 Water Rooster
13 February 1945 1 February 1946 Wood Rooster
31 January 1957 17 February 1958 Fire Rooster
17 February 1969 5 February 1970 Earth Rooster
5 February 1981 24 January 1982 Metal Rooster
23 January 1993 9 February 1994 Water Rooster
9 February 2005 28 January 2006 Wood Rooster
28 January 2017 15 February 2018 Fire Rooster
13 February 2029 2 February 2030 Earth Rooster
1 February 2041 21 January 2042 Metal Rooster

The cycles have more combinations than just the yearly ones –
The so-called 4 pillars:

  • The Animal / Elements of the Year (which would in Western Astrology roughly compare with the sign JUPITER was in at the year of birth), a.k.a. the ‘outer animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the Month of birth (which would roughly compare with the 12 Zodiac SUN sign cycle), a.k.a. ‘inner animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the Day of the week (which would roughly compare with the MOON sign), a.k.a. ‘private animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the Hour of birth, with a 2-hour range per animal, and rotating with elements (roughly comparable with AC signs), a.k.a. ‘secret animal’ – only people who know your birth time would know it.

So, in fact, the system is much more differentiated and complex in its combination variables than at first glance at the ‘Year of the…’ only.

12 x 5 Year combinations, 12 x 5 Month combinations, 12 x 5 Day combinations, and 12 x 5 Hour combinations (total 12960000) are possible!

The Yin Fire Rooster, and its Year – feat.: Monkey Review

The Element Fire / Li continues for another year before Earth will be on.
Fire is the Element of the South, passion and creativity, adventure, leadership, the colour red, Summer, and relates to the planet MARS.

Whoa – we already had a big dose of Fire in the passing Monkey year – no kidding, esp. in the American political / electoral arena. Check out this image again that I posted a year ago, for the Fire Monkey article. Had to share it with you with the original text too – for review. End of this p. 4, and p. 5.
Any associations with who won the Elections and wreaks havoc now? He’s got his PLUTO, MARS and AC in LEO… hmmm, freakishly fitting, here we go:

Monkey Golden Headed Lion Tamarin

Golden-Headed Lion Tamarin And yay, the Chinese Monkey relates to the Western sign Leo! 🙂

“No boredom, in the Yang FIRE MONKEY Year…

The Fire Monkey is super active and the most assertive (ruled by planet MARS…) if not aggressive of all Monkeys.
He’s naturally competitive, likes to be dominant, and take on leadership.

Hmmm, wondering what this means for the U.S. Federal Elections in Nov….

He heads straight for the top, and likes to be in control. Sorta Alpha Ape. When he’s in charge of a situation, he’s very motivated to nurture his tribe. Naturally adventurous, this Monkey leaps, sometimes recklessly, into new situations.

It’s a good idea for this one (and in this year) to channel all the fiery energy into creativity and into attracting with bold charisma and cheeky charm. Others can (often need to) help this Monkey get out of trouble.

The Monkey is clever, forever curious, a mischievous prankster, and always playful. He makes fun, plays tricks, has always a joke up his sleeve, and shows us that life is a game. The smart Monkeys love watching (and imitating) people, learning, playing, and being creative.

Clearly, this Monkey is super-fast and clever, so watch out for tricks and too good to be true schemes!

Good thing SATURN is presently in SAG (until Winter Solstice 2017) which helps us not to believe everything we (seem to) see, and to examine our moves.

I’d also recommend to watch the MERCURY retro phases under the Fire Monkey, since of course, MERCURY rules the ‘Monkey Mind’.

You know what I mean… So, that’ll be: April 28 – May 22, Aug 30 – Sept 21, 2016 and Dec 19 – Jan 8, 2017.
What’s up with MARS, the ruling planet of Fire, in this Monkey Year? Well, something quite significant:
MARS will go retrograde (every 2 years) from April 17 until June 29, 2016, and cross the ‘Phoenix Point’ from SCO to SAG 3 times:
March 5 – Mars direct / forward from Earth perspective, from SCO to SAG.

May 27 – Mars retro from Earth perspective, crossing from SAG to SCO.

Aug 2 – Mars direct from Earth perspective, crossing from SCO to SAG.

MARS will be for a long time in SCO and SAG this year – since Jan 3 until Sept 27 – during which time we’ll experience all 4 Eclipses (March 8 & 23, Sept 1 & 16).

A lot gets burnt off and transformed in this fiery year… already started, have you noticed? Best to work with it, maybe shed layers of old ‘skin’, conditionings, expired, limiting, fear and separation based beliefs (SATURN in SAG), and offer it all to the purging fires of transformation.

May old (self) destructive aggressive tendencies be transformed into passion, enthusiasm, creative spark, with the MARS retro phase!”

Wow, reading this Fire Monkey Chinese, and Western brief preview from last year, I was amazed at how much of it has come to pass.

So, what now? Coming out of a fiery, aggressive and mischievous year with crazy retro energies that showed us how we can get tricked, incl. by our own mind, confused and deluded (Eclipses with SN, CHIRON, and NEPTUNE in PISCES)… here we are – what a Monkey mess, you may say?!

Yin Fire Rooster – Phoenix Bird Coming in!

Did you know that Fire in the 5 Chinese Elements is also associated with the Vermillion Bird / Phoenix? A double whammy…?!

phoenix-fire

The Phoenix out of the Ashes process continues:

Burning off what we aren’t anymore, or fooled by, will be a big theme this year.
LILITH (our natural, undefined Self) goes over the ‘Phoenix Point’ in the Zodiac (from SCO to SAG) on Feb 13, so shortly after the Chinese New Year.

Ego busting times, for the Rooster, and through the Phoenix.

So, what’s the FIRE ROOSTER about, ‘usually’, and in this year’s context?

Rooster likes to show off, and is everything but shy.

“Show your colours!” is also a theme for the Lunar NORTH NODE going into LEO end of Apr. 2017 for 1½ years. Just to clarify: That goes for all of us, not just for an ‘elite’. And “Take a stand for what is close to your Heart!” says SATURN in SAG. It’s not about right or wrong. It’s about Living Life Lovingly.

Rooster’s shadow is Ego bolstering – “Look at ME!”, and creating a ‘Harem’ / following of admirers. As it usually goes, a lot of that drawing of attention can be an over compensation for inner sensitivity, insecurity, and being easily hurt by criticism.

The Fire Rooster can be even more flamboyant, aggressive (cock fight style), know-it-all, and dramatic.

I’m not saying every person born in the Fire Rooster year (1957 – 58) has these streaks to this degree – wouldn’t be my style, and wouldn’t make sense to generalize in that way. Also: as mentioned, the Chinese system has its 4 pillars (see above) that modify the characteristics.

But let’s be particularly aware of these traits in ourselves and in the world ‘outside’ in the year to come, and meet them with what they are really about.

  • Why are we / are people seeking attention?
  • What is it that we really need to show to others?

peacock-display

Peacock – Photo by Melanie

Once again, as in the Fire Monkey Year, let’s channel the Fire rather than into divisive aggressiveness into passion and creativity from the inside-out!

And show our true colours, as we transform and burn off what we have never been.
A purifying Fire from which we grow wings!

On another level, the Yin PHOENIX / FIRE ROOSTER has an association with the Western sign VIRGO. It is transformational, and excellent for health regeneration, as well as clearing on all levels.
The Lunar North Node is also still in VIRGO until end of April – what a perfect time to take care of business, and get our affairs in order.
Now, that’s good news, and good medicine, after the LEO associated MONKEY, and for the peacock like show-off qualities of the ROOSTER. Show us your transformation, PHOENIX!

And hey, what’s with JUPITER, the 12-year cycle planet, in the Rooster year?

JUPITER is presently (since Sept 9, 2016) in LIBRA, until Oct 10, 2017 when it enters SCORPIO.
Themes of fairness, justice, right relationship, choices in general, balance, and peace are BIG this year. Doesn’t mean: “It’s all good”, rather blown up and magnified, so that real growth or growing out of certain situations can happen. Once JUPITER is in SCO from the Fall on, big change will be under way.
Two major aspects from JUPITER in LIBRA will occur (3 times each) this year:

  • JUPITER opposes URANUS in ARIES (# 1 was on Dec 26, 2016), on March 3 (#2), and on Sept 27, 2017 (# 3).
What brings us balance and peace, and what’s unsettling and upsetting? Where do we need to get off the fence and be proactive? When is negotiation and ‘being nice’ enough, and it’s time to assert?!
  • JUPITER will square PLUTO in CAP (# 1 was Nov 24, 2016), on March 30 (# 2), and on Aug 4, 2017 (# 3).
Our choices, and the relationships we engage in have a powerful effect on the world we live in. How can we help turn things around for the better, and for positive growth?

Presently, and for the entry into the Chinese New Year, JUPITER is stationary and will go retro on Feb 5 (until June 9). An important time to re-view our choices and ‘what’s a good match’, what creates synergy, or (in square with PLUTO in CAP), what’s just too much work and too much we’ve taken on? A time to scale back, and find inner fulfillment (VENUS will be retro too).
With JUPITER in LIBRA, there’s lots of incentive and reward for creating harmony and balance in our lives. PLUTO in CAP loves resourcefulness – digging and purging, re-using and re-purposing what we already have.
Goes with the Feng Shui principles of organizing and streamlining our environment – makes life simpler and easier.

In our East-West CNY / AQ New Moon / Feng S9hui workshop on Jan 29, besides the Astrology we’ll also address basic Feng Shui principles, and you’ll receive a paper with lots of helpful tips.

With JUPITER in LIBRA:
How can harmony, peace, balance, culture, arts, aesthetics, fairness, and right relationship be enhanced in your life? Where is growth possible?
Of course, the personal astrological dynamics colour and modify the experience.

And we can all benefit from the important factor of awareness, so that we don’t unconsciously identify with the energies, however wisely travel with their currents.

Happy New Year of the FIRE ROOSTER!

* AQUARIUS New Moon on Feb 8 – Freedom For The Light!

8 Feb

With all the Fiery Chinese New Year Pizzazz, let’s not forget:

We’re also experiencing an AQ NEW MOON – basically every year, the AQ NEW MOON heralds the Chinese New Year (2nd New Moon after Winter Solstice).

When? 6:39 am PST on Feb 8. We’ll wake up into a new Lunar cycle 🙂

What? Check out the chart and its picture – also a signature for the onset of the Chinese New Year!

AQ NM 2016 CNY Fire Monkey

It still carries the sharp cardinal T-Square with URANUS in ARIES, and LILITH in LIBRA squaring PLUTO, VENUS (their alignment was exact Feb 5) in mid CAP, and MERCURY (after a long retro phase, incl. the pre-retro shadow, since Winter Solstice 2015) leaving the CAP concentration and post-retro shadow, as it will finally enter (its fave sign) AQ, on Feb 13.

MERCURY (rising at the time of the New Moon) has also been in contact with PLUTO, before, at the end, and shortly after its retro phase (Dec 19, Jan 22, Jan 29), as described in the last issues of Astro~News (and experienced by us) which transformed our mind to be more in tune with Soul and Essence:

  • What matters, ‘at the end of the day’?
  • What is a powerful, renewable resource we have access to?
  • How does our body-mind regenerate?
  • Rather than taking too much on that we can’t manage, what would be alternatives that are at least as ‘effective’ and more deeply fulfilling? Maybe connecting with others, supporting one another, sharing time and resources?

The CAPRICORN concentration is the apex (serves as an outlet) of the polarity between URANUS and LILITH (see chart). Innovative, revolutionary, awakening forces pushing the old and ‘expired’ out of the ‘matrix’, so that the energy transforms into….? Maybe ‘simply’ realizing: “We have all we need, and more.”  A paradigm shift, liberating us into being in our true nature (LILITH), in balance and right relatedness (LIBRA), authentic and ready for new beginnings (URANUS in AR).

URANUS, the ruler of AQ received recently, during AQ times, squares from MERCURY on Jan 31, from the MOON on Feb 5, and most recently, from VENUS on Feb 6. It really is a transformational and rebirthing time, for mind (MERCURY), needs and emotions (MOON), values and attractions (VENUS)!

Since AQ is ruled by URANUS, and New Moons have an ARIES theme, plus, the AQ NM will be – from the perspective of the West Coast – in the first house of the chart:
The AQ NEW MOON brings FREEDOM for – the LIGHT!

Which means: New Beginnings from a Cleared Slate, Co-Creation in Community (hey, the Monkey likes that too), and a more en-lightened Humanity!

Keynote:

The answer of spiritual agencies to thorough, sustained and victorious individual efforts.

This concludes most significantly this series of five symbol (AQ 16 – 20). The individual who has gone courageously and with indomitable spirit through his / her crucial crisis receives, as it were, a deep spiritual blessing from the Soul realm: “Mission accomplished. Peace be with you.” And in this blessing a secret prophecy of what is yet to come may be seen by the perspicacious and spiritually sensitive mind of the recipient. Every real spiritual step someone takes in their development is the result of a victory over forces of inertia or destruction. The Divine is totally ‘present’ in the heart of all true victories.”

Sooo apropos the recent intense crisis and deep purging and purifying process so many of us have been going through.

May the Soul Blessings for the Light that’s now emerging be well received by all of us!

Happy Chinese New Year of the Yang Fire Monkey (Feb 8, 2016 – Jan 27, 2017)! What are the East-West Astro Energies at Play?

7 Feb

The Upcoming New Moon on Monday Feb 8 at 06:39 am PST at 19º15’ Aquarius initiates the Chinese New Year of the Yang Fire Monkey!

Here in BC, Canada, we have quite an awareness of Chinese Astrology and year cycles, due to the presence of the Chinese community – obviously much stronger on the mainland than on Vancouver Island.

Yet, also in Victoria (where the Chinese population is about 30 000), the Chinese New Year will be celebrated again in Chinatown on Sunday, Feb 14 (traditional Lion’s Dance and celebrations) – the Sunday after the CNY.

The cycle of the 5 Elements = 5 heavenly stems.
Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood.

Therefore, there are 60 possible Animal & Element combinations, and they repeat every 60 years. The Elements stay ‘on’ for 2 years, with alternating Yang and Yin polarity.

For instance, after a Yang Wood Horse year (Jan 31, 2014 – Feb 18 2015), a Yin Wood Sheep year followed (on Feb 18, 2015), and on Feb 8, 2016, we are moving into a Yang Fire Monkey year.

Next year will be the Yin Fire Rooster year.

This system with cycles that aren’t directly based on cosmic planetary / star constellation cycles, yet the 12 year animal cycle corresponds roughly with the 12-year Jupiter cycle.

The last Yang Fire Monkey year was Feb 12, 1956 – Jan 30, 1957.

When you are about 60 years old, you get your Chinese element / animal return (together with the Western Astrology 2nd Saturn and 5th Jupiter return). And if you have grandchildren 60 years younger than you, you share your Animal / Element combo with them.

The last Monkey years (with different Element combinations) were (Jan / Feb that year until Jan / Feb following year) 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004.

For specific dates, and more detailed intro to the Chinese Elements and Animal Cycles, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_astrology.

For the Monkey years, check out this nice table from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_(zodiac) – lots of info about the Monkey there too.

Start date End date Heavenly branch
6 February 1932 25 January 1933 Water Monkey
25 January 1944 12 February 1945 Wood Monkey
12 February 1956 30 January 1957 Fire Monkey
30 January 1968 16 February 1969 Earth Monkey
16 February 1980 4 February 1981 Metal Monkey
4 February 1992 22 January 1993 Water Monkey
22 January 2004 8 February 2005 Wood Monkey
8 February 2016 27 January 2017 Fire Monkey
26 January 2028 12 February 2029 Earth Monkey
12 February 2040 31 January 2041 Metal Monkey

The cycles have more combinations thank just the yearly ones:
The so-called 4 pillars:

  • The Animal / Elements of the Year (which would in Western Astrology roughly compare with the sign Jupiter was in at the year of birth), a.k.a. the ‘outer animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the Month of birth (which would roughly compare with the 12 Zodiac Sun sign cycle), a.k.a. ‘inner animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the Day of the week (which would roughly compare with the Moon sign), a.k.a. ‘private animal’.
  • The Animal / Element of the Hour of birth, with a 2 hours range per animal, and also rotating with elements (roughly comparable with AC signs), a.k.a. ‘secret animal’ – only people who know your birth time would know it 🙂

So in fact, the system is much more differentiated and complex in its combination variables than one thinks at first glance at the ‘Year of…’ only.

12 x 5 Year combinations, 12 x 5 Month combinations, 12 x 5 Day combinations, and 12 x 5 Hour combinations (total 12 960 000) are possible!

The Yang Fire Monkey, and his Year

Monkey Golden Headed Lion Tamarin

Golden-Headed Lion Tamarin (free photo from Pixabay) And yay, the Chinese Monkey relates to the Western sign Leo! 🙂

Quite a shift after the closing Yin Wood Sheep year…

Wood / Chen (which has been on for the last 2 years) is the Element of the East, plants, nurturance, growth, the colour green, Spring, and relates to the planet Jupiter.

The Sheep / Wei is Yin by nature, tribe / family oriented, and associated with the Western Zodiac sign Cancer: Soft, gentle, caring, needs the quiet ‘nest’.
How have your home and family themes grown over the last year?

Perhaps a lot to reflect upon.

Collectively, worldwide, the wave of refugees looking for a safe haven has been related to the theme of the Wood Sheep.
In the generating Element cycle, Wood feeds Fire, and Fire follows Wood in the sequence throughout the years.

Fire / Li (the new Element of the next 2 years) is the Element of the South, passion and creativity, adventure, leadership, the colour red, Summer, and relates to the planet Mars.

The Monkey is clever, forever curious, a mischievous prankster, and always playful. He makes fun, plays tricks, has always a joke up his sleeve, and shows us that life is a game. The smart Monkeys love watching (and imitating) people, learning, playing, and being creative.

No boredom, in the Yang Fire Monkey Year…
The Fire Monkey is super active and the most assertive (ruled by planet Mars…) if not aggressive of all Monkeys. He’s naturally competitive, likes to be dominant, and take on leadership.

Hmmm, wondering what this means for the U.S. Federal Elections in November….

You know what I mean…
So, that’ll be: April 28 – May 22, Aug 30 – Sept 21,and Dec 19 – Jan 8, 2017.

What’s up with MARS, the ruling planet of Fire, in this Monkey Year?

Well, something quite significant:
MARS will go retrograde (every 2 years) from April 17 until June 29, and cross the ‘Phoenix Point’ from SCO to SAG 3 times:
March 5 – Mars direct / forward from Earth perspective, from SCO to SAG.

May 27 – Mars retro from Earth perspective, crossing from SAG to SCO.

Aug 2 – Mars direct from Earth perspective, crossing from SCO to SAG.

Did you know that Fire in the 5 Chinese Elements is also associated with the Vermillion Bird / Phoenix?

MARS will be for a long time in SCO and SAG this year – since Jan 3 until Sept 27 – during which time we’ll experience all 4 Eclipses (March 8 & 23, Sept 1 & 16).

PhoenixRising

So, guess what? A lot gets burnt off and transformed in this fiery year… already started, have you noticed?

Best to work with it, maybe shed layers of old ‘skin’, conditionings, expired, limiting, fear and separation based beliefs (Saturn in SAG), offer it all to the purging fires of transformation.

May old (self) destructive aggressive tendencies be transformed into passion, enthusiasm, creative spark, with the MARS retro phase!

And hey, what’s JUPITER, the 12-year cycle planet up to, in the Monkey year?

JUPITER is presently in VIRGO, until Sept 9 when it enters LIBRA.

In January, and once again in June 2016, JUPITER conjoins the North Node, throughout June also supported by an Earth trine with PLUTO in CAP. So there’s lots of incentive and reward for doing sacred alignment practice, taking good care of health and household, the body temple and the home temple, and many opportunities for being resourceful, helpful, organized, and streamlined – makes life simpler and easier. Feng Shui fits right in there.

Appreciating the ‘little things’ we often take for granted is just as important as fun and play and joyful creativity a la Monkey – one feeds the other!

Once JUPITER will have entered LIBRA harmony, peace, balance, culture, arts, esthetics, fairness, and right relationship become big themes. How can those areas be enhanced in your life? Where is growth possible?

Of course, the personal astrological dynamics colour and modify the experience. And the very important factor of awareness (esp. in the Monkey year, but hey, always helpful!), so that we don’t overly identify with the energies, however wisely travel with their currents.
